Abstract

The rapid increase in plastic pollution calls for creative ideas and biodegradable polymers are very important for saving the environment. It investigates the factors involved in epigenetics such as DNA methylation and histone modifications which help control the behaviour and environmental impacts of different polymers. Introducing molecular biology, bioinformatics and polymer science into the research design, the team is able to identify which genes influence polymer degradation and ecological fit. To see epigenetic changes, scientists studied genes, their expression and changes in methylation across the genome. They found special patterns related to the kinds of cells for each disease. Applying statistical analyses on epigenetic factors showed that they are important, giving original ideas to design biodegradable polymers for better degradation. The research underlines how a combination of molecular and materials engineering helps create sustainable polymers that fit in with the circular economy. This research creates a useful structure for future ideas in designing polymers which can be promoted by increasing teamwork among disciplines and government funding.
